Re-Presenting Our Presentation

Hello All,

Further to our presentation yesterday, Sarah has sent me the below email. I think it would be great if we could all present again, depending on who can make it with part-time commitments etc. I'll put this up on the blog as well. Please let me know if you're all interested as we'll need to have a meeting early next week to run through what we're going to talk about. Don't feel like you have to present if you don't want to, but as this was input from everyone, it would be nice to present as Mumbai Group again!

"Some progression on Stuart's request for you to re-present your presentations to the UCCA Farnham marketing team and senior academic staff. He has managed to arrange a time when they will be present next Wednesday at 9.30 in G193 and if you can either re-form as your complete groups or just a couple of you from each group re-present your college confusion presentation and re-branding quite shockingly the college want to use your comments and even brand ideas - which is great. Would you both be able to be there and would you be able to ask through your blogs the other members of your groups whether they too would like to contribute. Please can you mail myself and Paulette Morgans your response as soon as possible.

One last request, would it be possible for you or a member of your group to print off some of the images from your presentations, perhaps of the groups meetings on to A4 or send myself and Paulette some of the images so that on Monday I can create a display for the presentations on Wednesday. I owe you both not to mention Paulette a pint for this help in the Slug and Lettuce.

Look forward to the effects your presentations will have on the College"

Well done

I thought that the presentation this afternoon was excellent.

Well done to all! Particulary pleased that we were asked if we could do it again.

Hope we can still work together.

Poster is printed and done!

Hey everybody, just to let you all know Hamed and I got the poster printed and mounted earlier on. It looks awesome, well done to everyone! It just needs the edges trimming, but I'm sure you'll all be happy with it. I've done the slideshow with the photos of us on, should be fun!

We decided to do the presentation in three parts: Gary will do the introduction which includes how we worked as a group and the basis for our project. I will then comment directly on the poster and talk about the different elements which are relevant to each individual. Hamed will finish up with a conclusion and potential things the Uni could do to help everybody be less... confused!

I had a look at the room we'll be presenting in and we're not going to have anywhere to hang the poster, so 2 volunteers to hold it up during the presentation would be appreciated!

The print itself cost £20 and I spent £16 on mountboard, spraymount and white tack (which we're not going to use - I hadn't realised how heavy the thing was going to be!)

Is everybody happy to pay £3 each? That works out at £27 altogether (as there are 9 of us). If that's ok, then if you could bring that with you tomorrow it would be much appreciated!

Speak to you soon!

Hello Group! Today we finally finished the poster!!!! We are planning to meet at 9.30 Wednesday at 2468. If any of you don't want to speak on the presentation its fine, but if someone wants to present any of the sections is more than welcome. Our 2 main speakers are Gary and James. They are also going to post the main points for the presentation and from those, anyone can add missing points.
See you on Wednesday!!!
Sofia

Hamed, did you want to make a concluding point about potential improvements the Uni could make about the confusing things that could be fixed?

Idea for layout

Hello everyone, hope you're having a good weekend and everything is going well.

Thought I'd put this online so you can take a look. It's just an idea, perhaps as an alternative if we can't get the "throw it up in the air to make it random and confusing" to work. Obviously, there's only bits in there at the moment, lots of Confusing Photography to go in yet, but as a general idea, do you think this could work?

Personally, I think it needs to be more... confusing, but once we've got all the photos and other stuff to go in, it could work.

Farnham confusison

Sorry I couldn't make the meeting this afternoon ,but I'll be there on Monday.
I think Lin's map is fine and a good starting point. Perhaps we could overlay it a
bit more, like the river and lots of texts? (193, Where is the loos, etc.)
Have a good weekend everyone.

farnham map

Hello Group!

This is Lin’s map with my pictures. I wanted to overlap everything to represent how confusing is to get from the train station to the College.

Please let me know if you like it this way or if you rather prefer to have the pictures in another way.

Thank you very much.

MA UCCA blogs

This is MA UCCA blogs at Farnham
http://www.mauccablog.blogspot.com/

a practical soloution?

I have been thinking about the process through which the initial idea (of confusing Farnham) has gradually evolved to take the form of a critical and informative study of the maps, road signs and university directions of the UCCA at Farnham and I thought maybe when we present our group work on Wednesday, we could take the opportunity to inform the people in charge of University that something really needs to be done about this confusing system of signs, partitioning, mapping, colouring, etc! So what do you think?

Confusion in Log-in

Last time, we also discussed about the computer system.
I just took some pictures to reaffirm the current situation.
There are many papers for guide, and these paper have each different form.
Likewise, the Login pages also have different style.
If there is one piece of paper to guide everything like a list, we would not be confused.

I don't know what I'm doing

Beeing totally naive in this game, I am trying to post a message.
First of all I think we are working as a team and that that is a big part of this exercise.
We are all trying to put our point across and the end
product (the end of the journey)
will no doubt be fantastic!
See you all soon

change in meeting

Hello Group!!!
I'm really sorry but I'm not going to make it on Tuesday, but I can meet on Monday if there is no problem for the rest of the group ( specially Koya and Hildegunn ) I could meet before 2 and after 4, as you prefer to. Another thing, I have to attend a lecture of my MA on Wednesday from 10 - 1 I already told Sarah, but if our presentation is in the morning I wouldn't be able to attend it. I am really sorry about that!!!!
I hope you answer this post soon just to know if we can arrange our last meeting on Monday.
Thank you!!!!
Sofia

Sunday Times University Guide Review

Hildegunn found this review in the Sunday Times University Guide on Sunday 23rd September 2007.
I'm afraid this scan isn't very clear so I'll see if I can get a better one from another scanner tomorrow.
Alternatively this is where to find it online.

Today's Meeting

Hildegunn's concept (below) represents quite nicely what we were talking about last week about a confusion collection of images. We could use this is a general layout to go by, including everybody else's contributions as well.

Lin Lin is working on something based around the walk from the station to the University, so this seems to tie in very closely with what Sofia is talking about.

Gary has noticed a couple of signs for the University, one which goes by it's old name and another has a different name, so this along with other imagery will form the basis of his photography contribution.

Something along the lines of my one-way system sketch (below) could replace the road diagram in Hildegunn's sketch.

Anyway, we seem to have a solid foundation, we'll have our meeting with Sarah (which I may or may not be able to attend depending on what time it is) and see where we go from there.

Here's everybody's email addresses just so we have them all in one place. This should be everyone now, including Hamed.

train station - UCCA

Hello Everyone!
I was thinking that I could portray the confusion that exists in the path from the train station to the school. And also, even if people followed the map that is handed in the UCCA's website there are other better ways to get there.
So:
the confusion that exists, because there are no directions and the map is not clear
how can that map and directions can be more efficient

For this, I could take some pictures from the train station to the UCCA, maybe in photoshop highlight the major distractions and at the end, show the same pictures but with ideas that could help improve the clarity of the path.

Thank you very much!
See you tomorrow!

Confusion in Farnham! - The Theme For Our Project and Thoughts from Today

Hello everybody, just thought I'd update the blog with what we managed to cover today.

We discussed a couple of ideas including Sofia's suggestion of something to do with Farnham Castle. This could include something to do with it's history and current position as a conference centre. There is information available on it's history from somewhere in the town centre (I think somebody mentioned a museum or something?)

Hildegunn suggested something based around how confusing it is to find anywhere on campus as the layout/maps don't seem to make a huge amount of sense. This led to a general theme of conusing first impressions of Farnham and a variety of ideas to work with which included the following:
  • Confusing layout of University - white section/green section etc. - but not actually colour coloured that way!
  • Room numbers - some don't seem to correlate (The lecture theatre on the first day was supposed to be W612 , but the number on the door says 62?!)
  • Confusing road system in Farnham town centre - the one way system where, for example, it doesn't say who has right of way where lanes merge.
  • This led onto the different confusion people would face whether travelling by car, by train on foot, via the London Underground (The train station seems a long way away!)
  • There's no identity for the University in town - a lack of signposts or suggestions as to where the University is (I went round the one way system myself a couple of times trying to find the place the first time)
  • The computer systems. Some people are on the system, some people aren't. Some people can access things, other people can't. So many different systems (Blackboard/Blog/Email/Stores/Printing). Several different usernames and passwords (all for the different systems!). Door codes to remember!
We agreed that we would all choose a theme, either from those above or another based on Confusion in Farnham and design/construct something based around it using each of our own unique skills. This could be a drawing, photogprahic, an illustration, a design or anything. Then we will put them altogether as a large poster/display to be projected as a collection of Confusing First Impressions of Farnham. It might even be fun to add to the chaotic confusion to literally just thrown everything up in the air and put it together randomly!

Anyway, I hope that gives everybody something to work with. We'll be meeting again at 12pm on Monday in the 2,4,6,8 room (is that confusing?!), though Sofia and Koya won't be able to make it.
